Justine Shapiro

Justine Shapiro is a South African-born American filmmaker, writer, presenter and producer.
Justine was nominated for an Academy Award for Promises, a documentary film featuring seven Palestinian and Israeli children living in and around Jerusalem.
She is also proud to have produced and directed Our Summer in Tehran, a documentary film about the summer she spent with three families in Tehran.
Justine served as the Executive Director of Promises Films, a non-profit production company, from 1997-2018.
Significantly, Justine was the original presenter on the landmark TV series Globe Trekker (originally broadcast as Lonely Planet). From 1994- 2014 she interviewed hundreds of locals from all walks of life, delivering spontaneous reflections to a massive global television audience.
In 2014 Justine hosted the PBS series Time Team America, which explores archaeological dig sites across the USA.
Prior to making documentary films and hosting non-fiction television Justine was a professional actress and has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1984.
Today, Justine proudly leads the Globe Trekker Now project and is looking forward to new adventures with the series’ fans all around the world.
